When the warm days arrive, Provence becomes a true open-air stage. Music, theatre, film and street arts festivals set the rhythm of the season, inviting residents and visitors alike to explore the region with a fresh perspective. In villages, on town squares, or overlooking the sea, culture is experienced as a collective celebration, driven by the diversity and creativity of events of every scale.
The Aix-Marseille-Provence Metropolitan Authority supports numerous events that contribute to the region’s artistic vitality and tourism appeal. This backing enables festivals to grow, welcome both renowned artists and emerging talents, and offer diverse programming accessible to the widest possible audience. Among the key initiatives, the Jazz des Cinq Continents Metropolitan Tour extends the spirit of Marseille’s international festival across the wider metropolitan area: in 2026, 21 municipalities will host concerts, affirming a clear commitment to cultural outreach beyond the city center.
In the same spirit, the Metropolitan Artistic Tour, led directly by the Metropolitan Authority, has expanded since 2025 to include all municipalities with fewer than 15,000 inhabitants, and now encompasses all performing arts disciplines: live performance, contemporary music and street arts. This proactive cultural policy supports both artistic creation and dissemination, while offering high-quality events accessible to broad audiences throughout the region.
Event organizers in the area are also supported by an eco-responsible events charter, designed to encourage more sustainable practices. The goal is to ensure that major summer gatherings reflect a dynamic region that is fully aware of both the richness and the fragility of its natural environment.
