Isabelle Adjani LiFE

Isabelle Adjani was born in Paris into a bicultural family: her mother was German and her father Algerian.
Theatre proved to be her vocation since adolescence and in the 1970s, she played her first stage role in García Lorca’s famous play, ‘Bernarda’s House’.

The young prodigy was soon offered a contract at the Comédie Française. Her time at the National Theatre left a legendary mark.

From her early days to the present, her film roles have established her as the leading interpreter of tragic lives (in films such as François Truffaut’s « L’Histoire d’Adèle H. », Jean Becker’s « L’Été meurtrier », Patrice Chéreau’s « La Reine Margot », and Bruno Nuytten’s « Camille Claudel »), although she has also enjoyed dramatic and romantic comedies.

She has won a record five Césars out of nine nominations in the Best Actress category.

In 2009, Isabelle Adjani earned her fifth César for her role as a teacher fighting injustice, in Jean-Paul Lilienfeld’s La Journée de la jupe. Adjani, an actress long committed to social justice, said she felt all the more rewarded at this point in her career.

France has not been the only country to reward her numerous times with prestigious prizes over the years, including two Oscar nominations for « L’Histoire d’Adèle H. » and « Camille Claudel ».

Like most of the stars working today for streaming platforms, she agreed to appear in the US Netflix series « A Perfect Couple ».

Broadcast last summer, the American series was a huge success, and Adjani’s performance caused a sensation. She has just renewed her collaboration with Netflix, recently shooting a new French-language series called « Soleil Noir ». This thriller serie of six episodes is to be discovered this summer.

Meanwhile, Isabelle Adjani’s fascination with literature has led her to co-write « Du côté de chez Marilyn » with writer Olivier Steiner, in which she explores her fascination with Marilyn Monroe and shares personal reflections on her artistic career.

We are delighted to welcome Isabelle Adjani back to our pages, where she offers a unique insight into her artistic world and her exceptional career.
