Aix-en-Provence is preparing to honor one of its greatest artists with a program that highlights not only his works but also the places that inspired his genius. The Musée Granet will be at the heart of this exceptional event, while two iconic Cézanne sites will offer visitors an immersive journey into the artist’s world.
Cézanne painted some of his final works in the Atelier des Lauves, built in 1901, which will reopen for this occasion after a renovation. Here, visitors will find his easels, models, and unfinished still lifes. Additionally, the family estate of Jas de Bouffan, a setting that fueled Cézanne’s imagination for forty years, will be restored to highlight the artist’s youth and the place where he created dozens of paintings.
The Musée Granet will host a prestigious exhibition from June 28 to October 12, 2025, featuring over 120 works by Cézanne, loaned from major international institutions, affirming Aix as «the city of Cézanne.»
Dedicated tours will allow visitors to follow in Cézanne’s footsteps, exploring the places central to his life and creative journey, including Lauves Hill, where he ended his career.
Walks Around Sainte-Victoire
To deepen this immersion into Cézanne’s universe, three hikes offer views of Sainte-Victoire Mountain, his muse. These trails include the Bibémus plateau, which inspired many of his works, Roques-Hautes, with its old marble quarry once used for the Louvre, and Saint-Ser Chapel, a historic pilgrimage site.
Whether you’re an art lover or a hiker, 2025 promises to be an exceptional year to celebrate Cézanne and the sublime nature of Provence.
